The Municipal Council Urmur Tanda is a second class council & it was established in the year 1885 as per following notification No.1041 Dated 19TH August, 1885. Urmar Tanda is a great historic town, which came into existence with the passage of time, after merging localities of villages Tanda, Urmur, Darapur,and Ahiyapur & Dalla. It traced its roots in the history in 12th century when Mohd. Goriinvaded India many times. Mohd. Gori wins occupied this area but later on due to some reasons he left this place after appointing Khan Brothers. Its custodian & bestowed them the entire priority of this area. They continued its control & administration till later on when Maharaja Ranjit Singh established his Empire from Kashmir to Afghanistan & got region of this area. Maharaja Ranjit Singh handed over the control of this town to Sr. Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Chief of Ahluwalia misle, one of the 12 misles found by Sher-E- Punjab. Thus, this town remained a part of Kapurthla State & subsequently under the British Govt.Urmar Tanda got significance of a commercial hub when it became the halting place of Kafla of businessmen who while on their commercial tour used to travel from Lahore,Amritsar,and Jalandhar to Himachal area. It is said that during the control of khan brothers this town was famous for diamond & jewellary. There earthen pot lying in the Museum at Lahore is testimony to this trade. The Khan Brothers too have their say in the British Administration.It was only due to their impression that they succeed in their efforts to develop a rail & road link up to Tanda only. The present Rail & Road link from Tanda to Pathankot came into existence only after independence. Urmur Tanda is situated on Jalandhar – Pathankot G.T. Road & Jullunder – Pathankot Rail Link and is also connected with Amritsar Distt. Bye Hargobindpur tanda road. The town at present is a Sub-Tensile of Dasuya sub-division of Distt. Hoshiarpur. The town is divided into 13 wards. A historic WEYEN (stream) flows at about 4 km away from town where on at pull pukhta on Hargobindpur road a historic Gurudwara connected with the life & teaching of 6th guru Shri Guru Hargobindpur is situated. This town has also an old mandir of Baba Buta Bhagat Singh where a great gathering of devotees is held every year in the month of June. Also Gurudwara Dukh Bhanjan (Dera Baba Balwant Singh) is situated near Govt. College where Kirtan & teaching of guru granth sahib is practiced occasionally. This Gurudwara also attracts thousands of devotees.
